* UPDATE: This chili recipe was voted #1 chili at a chili cook off we had for Trunk or Treat at my husband’s work! That’s how good it is!! #winnerwinner
Chili is a comfort food that everyone usually loves. And it’s easily made low carb or keto, just leave out the beans!
My husband loves this recipes because of the Italian sausage and extra spice I add to it. It’s definitely a man pleaser (seems like all my recipes have been man pleasing lately…hmm). I like using the crockpot because I can set it and forget it. And it keeps the food warm for when my husband has to work long hours.
I decided to make a video showing exactly how I make it (and to use my new handy dandy camera holder that I can clip anywhere).
I hope you enjoy! Beware we like our chili EXTRA spicy!
Ingredients
- 1 lb grass-fed ground beef
- 1 lb ground Italian sausage (we like the HOT version)
- 1 large onion diced
- 1 green bell pepper diced
- 1 red bell pepper diced
- 1/4 cup of diced jalapeños (fresh or jarred)
- 2 cloves of minced garlic
- 4 tbsp chili powder
- 1 tbsp of cumin
- 2 tsp of crushed red peppers
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper
- 2 tsp salt
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tsp onion powder
- 2 14oz cans of diced tomatoes
- 2 small can of tomato paste
- 1/2 – 1 cup of water
*Optional: Shredded cheese, sour cream, green onions.
Directions
- Brown ground beef and Italian sausage and drain excess fat. Add to heated crockpot.
- Dice bell peppers, onion and jalapeños. Sauté in grease from the meat (add extra oil if needed). Once onions are translucent, add minced garlic and sauté for a couple more minutes. Add to crockpot.
- Add spices, water, diced tomatoes and tomato paste to crockpot and mix it all together!
- Cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
- Serve with shredded cheese, sour cream and green onions!
- Enjoy!
**BONUS TIP! – Do you hate how quickly your green onions go bad? Put them in a glass with about an inch of water and place in refridgerator or on the counter. They will last twice as long as they used to. Your welcome!
