#ThrowbackThursday to “The One Where Rachel and Brittany Were Serenaded In A Gondola” in Venice Italy.
My sister Rachel and I visited Venice Italy on two different occasions (hence the wardrobe changes) in September of 2015. It is about 1 hours from Vicenza, Italy. Venice is magical, but VERY crowded. Most known for its famous canals, gondola rides, pigeons and St. Mark’s Square and Basilica.
Piazza San Marco has famously been called “the drawing room of Europe,” a quote attributed to Napoleon. The square is named after the unusual and stunning Basilica San Marco that sits on the east end of the square. The slender Campanile di San Marco, the basilica’s bell tower, is one of the square’s most recognizable landmarks.
The Bridge of Sighs is one of the most famous bridges in Venice (and even the world). It connects the Doge’s Palace to the prisons that were built in the late 16th century. The bridge got its name from a legend that says the prisoners, on their way to their cells or even execution, would let out a sigh as they saw their last view of Venice and the outside world through the tiny windows.
The Doge’s Palace, now a famous museum, was once the seat of power of the Venetian Republic. It is known for its ornate gothic facade, beautifully frescoed interiors, and gilded ceilings. It houses many famous pieces of art.
Built to impress, this staircase with an well gilded stucco ceiling offers visitors a majestic entrance to the Doge’s apartments on the upper floor.
Arrivederci for now!
